Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are flat?
Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is not enough?
Why does someone believe you if you tell them there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?
Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle?
Why does a round pizza come in a square box?
Why do kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest but duck when a gun is thrown at him?
Why do people say they "slept like a baby" when babies wake up every couple of hours?
Why did we think to put a man on the moon before we thought to put wheels on large suitcases?
Why, if money doesn't grow on trees, do banks have branches?
Why do people pay to go up tall buildings and then put money into binoculars to look at things on the ground?
If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?
There will be kids clubs on Wednesday 9th and 16th of April in the village hall from 1.30-3.30pm. This holiday we are running the clubs for younger children and anyone who is at school in classes reception to year 2 are welcome. We will have the usual activities - table football, snooker, and a whole variety of different crafts for the children to do during the afternoon. Entrance is £1 per child. Sweets and drinks will be available to buy. All money raised will go towards the Village Hall Funds. We will also be serving tea and coffee in the small meeting room so that mums can get a bit of peace and have a chat.
Many thanks to all those who supported the windmill by coming to the wine tasting evening last month. Seven wines were tasted and there was also a quiz, so a fun time was had by all!
The wonderful sum of £900 was made and this will help towards the upkeep of the mill. It was great to see so many villagers at this event and we hope that by mid summer the village will be able to see the mill with its full complement of four sails!
Open days are listed on the back page but if there is anyone who wishes to visit at other times please contact Susan Day (653699) and she will be pleased to open it and show them around.

On Sunday night the Church Hill was the scene of another accident. As Mr Alex Hill, Doncaster, was ascending the hill on a motorcycle, with Miss Macaskil on the pillion, a collision occurred between them and a descending motor cycle. The impact was so great as to throw onto the road the riders of the motorcycle and render them in an unconscious state. The victims were conveyed to the Brigg Infirmary, where it was ascertained that Mr Hill had sustained a badly fractured leg, as well as lacerations. Miss Macaskil, who was chiefly affected by shock, was able to leave the institution the following day.
