Family and local history day

Saturday 21st June 10am — 3pm, Wrawby Church

The church will be opening its doors on Saturday 21st June to all lovers of history, particularly their own!

Present at the event will be representatives from Lincolnshire archives to advise on what is available and where to look. Lincolnshire Family History Society and also the Isle of Axholme Family History Society will be having stalls with loads of material and information.

Wrawby Local History Society will be coming to inform on their latest research and how you can help discover the past locally.

Baptism, marriage and burial registers dating back to the 1700's will be brought out of the archives for the day, these from Wrawby parish and hopefully for Brigg parish and Cadney parish as well. These will be available for people to research their ancestors.

We hope to have a section for photographs for people to help identify. If you have a local photograph of people or places you need help identifying this could be the opportunity.

Come also to look at the newly reordered interior of the church. Refreshments will be available from the new kitchen facilities.

Contact Nigel Good on 01652 658883 if you can supply copies of photos for identification or if you would like to contribute on the day.

Vandalism

Unfortunately, there have been a number of instances of vandalism in the village in recent weeks particularly in the Vicarage Gardens area. The police are aware and are following this up but residents are asked to be more watchful than ever and to advise the Police of anything witnessed. The non-emergency number is 0845 606 0222. Confidential calls may also be made to your parish councillors.

Village Hall Report

The Wrawby Village Hall committee recently held their AGM. On 19th May the new floor will be put down and this will take two weeks to complete. The following month the firm doing the work will take moisture readings to ensure all is well with the new floor. After that, the hall will re-open.

The treasurer produced figures showing where the money for the floor had come from and congratulated the various village groups and individuals who had raised so much towards the cost.

The lack of lighting outside the hall was discussed and it was decided to put a sodium light bulb in the cage above the Village Hall sign and hope that the vandals will leave this alone.

The committee and its officers were unanimously re-elected with Warwick May as Chairman, Kirstin May as Secretary, Graham Foster as Treasurer and Louise Barraclough as Bookings Officer.

The committee will review the cost of hiring the hall after the new floor has been laid. It is hoped that the interior of the hall will be painted after the floor is down.

The committee plan to organise an event in the summer to celebrate the "new" hall which may take the form of a Cider Tasting and Hog Roast Evening. Details to follow.

Smartwater

SmartWater is coming to our Area - Completely Free

SmartWater is a unique property coding system (rather like a DNA code in clear nail varnish). When applied to your property, it glows under light and allows the Police to trace that property directly back to you.

For this reason criminals hate it and that means your home is much less likely to be burgled. In those areas where it is already used, the burglary and car crime rates are often cut by as much as 80%.   » www.smartwater.com

Smartwater is being made available absolutely free to households within Neighbourhood Watch Group Areas as a means of reducing the overall property crime rate in North Lincolnshire. There is no hidden catch and no hidden agenda. SmartWater Home Coding Kits will be issued within the next few weeks.
