The Final Word on Nutrition

After an exhaustive review of the research literature, here's the final word on nutrition and health :-

  • Japanese people eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
  • Mexican people eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
  • Chinese people drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
  • Italian people drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
  • German people drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
  • The French eat fois-gras, full fat cheese and drink red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.

Conclusion:
Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you

Christian Aid Week Result

A big thank you to the many people of Wrawby who gave generously in the recent house to house collection. We are delighted to report that the total raised to date is £1,010.47 - an excellent result.

Thank you!

An appreciative thank you as well to the 24 people of the village who gave their time to collect! For once the weather was fine and we did not have to collect in the rain.

Village Hall Lunches

30 people sat down together for the last of the Spring Village Hall Lunches on 29th April. Over the 9 weeks, more than 63 different people joined us with an average of 27 people each time. If one day everyone, who comes sometimes, came on the same day, we would really be challenged!! We enjoy seeing all our regulars, but it is also lovely when new people come.

£400 was made and this is going to the Wrawby Pre-school together with a contribution towards some new goalposts for one of the junior football teams.

After a break for the summer, we will recommence at the end of September.

Bags to school

Illustration, Bags to School

The date of the next collection is Wednesday 25th June.

The van will be at the village hall car park at 12.15. People are welcome to leave bags there from 9am onwards and someone from the friends will stop there until the van arrives. I will be dropping off bags again while I take the books out. Any streets that have had a bag dropped off, someone will be driving round to collect them, but would they please leave them clearly visible at the edge of the property. We won't be looking for bags unless you had a bag left there, as we just don't have enough people to do this. But anyone is welcome to bring the clothes, bags, belts and shoes in any sort of bag and leave it at the village hall car park

Parish Council Vacancy

Due to work commitments, Darryl Kay has resigned from the Parish Council.

Darryl was first elected to the Parish Council in 1987 and has worked hard for the past 21 years on behalf of both the village and the Council. We would like to thank Darryl for his contribution over those years and to wish him well in the future.

As a result, there is now a vacancy on the Parish Council and applications/nominations are sought from anyone who feels that they can contribute to the council and the village. Further details are on the Parish Council notice board or from the Clerk to the Council, Graham Foster.

Best Kept Village Competition

Judging will take place during June, July and August so please do your bit to keep things tidy. This year, St Mary's PCC are working with council to improve the areas around each entry sign to Wrawby-an area that let us down last year.

St Mary's Church Opens Door

Now the works to the church are complete, the PCC would like to open the church each day to allow visitors to view and enjoy the church from 9.00am to 3.00pm

A three-month trial will start in June.
