Wrawby Postmill Open Days Cancelled

As you know the mill has not been able to open this year and the Trustees have decided that it would not be sensible, in the current situation, to open at all this year. So the remaining Open Days planned for 2020 are cancelled.

For more information, please see the article on the News Page.

75th Anniversary of V.E.Day

Wrawby had many and various activities planned for the 75th anniversary of V.E. Day all of which were cancelled due to Covid-19, however many residents organized their own local street party style celebrations, not least Bakersfield and Archers Close. Here thanks to an idea circulated by Sarah and Simon Fox almost everyone in the Bakersfield, Gillatt’s Close and Archers’ Close region went to town on their decorations – and the whole area was a spectacular array of colour and festivity. One resident supplied a P.A. system and the event started at midday with the broadcast of Winston Churchill’s victory speech followed by wartime/nineteen forties’ songs and music for the rest of the afternoon. People walked up and down the street, socialising from a distance and the atmosphere was electric.

After weeks of anxiety and doubt caused by the Corona virus, it was the tonic everybody needed. The weather was, of course, perfect for such an occasion and everyone felt that, out of a frightful ongoing situation, something rather magical had occurred. And how appropriate on a day when we remembered the sacrifices that were made eighty years ago and compared those with the courage and selflessness of people who are currently combatting a silent, invisible but deadly enemy.
